3D models and scenes created in AutoDesk 3ds Max, AutoDesk Maya, AC3D, Modo, Blender, Seamless3d, are used in the film industry, simulation, 3D printing, gaming, and education. Despite the increasing number of multimedia ontologies, however, the structured representation and annotation of 3D contents remained limited. The 3D Modeling Ontology is the first formal 3D multimedia ontology written in OWL 2 with standard alignment, which covers X3D v3.3, complemented by concepts and roles from the 3D modeling industry. The 3D Modeling Ontology is suitable for the formal representation, annotation, and, when complemented by SWRL rules, automated interpretation of online 3D scenes, CGI, and interactive vector graphics.
